It is very important and appropriate that we are interested in our own human tissue and organs, but surely it is also important that we study the animals surrounding us.
Is a fish or a frog for example, so different once you look at it through a microscope?
Doubtless many of you will be amazed to learn that the muscle of a fish or of a jumping frog is very similar to ours; or that tissue forming the backbone of a shark is the same as we have in our joints.
We can also see how different we are by examining this set of microscope slides showing gills used by fish to absorb oxygen from the water, frogs' red globules equipped with a nucleus which does not exist in human beings, poison glands of salamanders' skin, as well as many other specimen examples.
