Bacteria commonly called microbes, are unicellular beings belonging to the vegetable kingdom: they consist of one cell, and they have a visible nucleus, since chromosomes are scattered in cytoplasm.
They can either be extremely dangerous pathogen agents and cause fatal diseases (tetanus, typhus, tuberculosis, cholera) or they can be useful, such as bacteria housed in the stomach aiding our digestion.
Their shape may be different: in the form of small ball (coccus), or small sticks (bacillus) or spirals (vibrio and spirillum): they can be isolated or joined in clusters (staphylococcus) or in elongated strings (streptococcus).
Their propagation does not occur by mitosis, they simply and rapidly divide once they find the appropriate environment, sometimes producing highly toxic substances (toxins).
