The magnification power is figured by multiplying the power of the objective (bottom lens unit) times the power of the eyepiece (top lens unit)
Examples of this are as follows:
- 10x eyepiece with a 4x objective = 40x,
- 10x eyepiece with a 10x objective = 100x,
  etc.
Now by selecting the correct combination of eyepieces and objectives you can get magnifications of 20x, 40x, 50x, 100x, 200x or 400x all from this one microscope.
